I chose this article because talks about rehabilitation for better functioning in memory after patients have experienced a traumatic brain injury. Traumatic brain injuries are associated with significant impairments to memory and other cognitive functions. A wide variety of interventions have shown effective in helping improve attention, memory, executive function in patients following a TBI. The present study researches the idea of internet-based rehabilitation and whether it improved functioning post TBI. There were 14 participants that had medically documented traumatic brain injuries. Participants completed 30 sessions of either a dairy intervention, where participants recorded their daily activities and thoughts in a diary, or a calendar intervention, participants were asked to use a calendar as a reference for recording their daily activities. The calendar was the active condition and the diary was the control condition. They completed these sessions over the internet using instant messaging with a therapist. The participants were given testing before the interventions for a baseline and then were tested after completing the tests to look for any changes in functioning. Results showed no significant differences in the control group and the active group. Family members reported an increase in mood and memory following completion of the study. These results show that internet-based rehab with a therapist may be an effective tool when trying to improve memory and attention.
